The RFID in Healthcare Consortium (RHCC) and Intelligent Hospital.org – pioneering organizations in advanced technology initiatives for improved patient care and healthcare facility management – are now accepting nominations for the first annual Intelligent Hospital Awards.

“The objective of the Intelligent Hospital Awards is to highlight the changing healthcare patient environment and recognize those who are advancing healthcare by integrating advanced technologies, such as auto-ID, NFC, RFID, RTLS, sensors and wireless along with point-of-care information delivery and communications devices,” said Dr. Paul Frisch, President and CTO of the RFID in Healthcare Consortium.

Co-chaired by Emily Sopensky, co-founder of the RHCC, and Dan Chamberlain, senior manager at Motorola Solutions, the Awards Committee hails from solution leaders such as AeroScout (now part of Stanley Healthcare Solutions), Ascom, Capsule Tech, CareFusion, GE Healthcare, Hewlett-Packard, Lockheed Martin, MEPS Real-Time, Motorola Solutions, Skylight, Skytron and WaveMark. Award categories include:

  • Improving the Patient Experience: Care and Safety
  • Improving Regulatory Compliance
  • Best Comprehensive Integration
  • Most Innovative Use Case

Winning entries will make use of one or more of the following technologies: Auto-ID, NFC, RFID, RTLS, mobile applications, mobile devices, sensors and wireless. The deadline to submit nominations for consideration is January 7, 2013, at 12:00 a.m. midnight Eastern Time. Award recipients will be notified on January 21, 2013, and will be invited to the annual Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society (HIMSS13) conference and exhibition in New Orleans, March 3-7, 2013, to receive their awards.

“Healthcare institutions are constantly looking for ways to improve the delivery of healthcare. Yet, introducing innovative technologies and methodologies is not without challenges. It requires cooperation and collaboration among those providing the healthcare, administrators and vendors,” noted Dr. Frisch.

“The Intelligent Hospital Awards bring much deserved attention and recognition to those visionary organizations, groups and individuals that have made great strides in developing information technology solutions to improve healthcare around the world,” commented Harry P. Pappas, CEO and co-founder of the RHCC. “This first-of-its-kind program celebrates innovation that is truly making a difference in the quality of patient care.”
