(RFIDWorld.ca) Zebra Technologies Corporation and Checkpoint Systems recently announced that they have signed a licensing agreement. The pact brings together Zebra’s active locations solutions with Checkpoint Systems passive radio-frequency identification, auto identification and sensor capabilities. The purpose of the tie is to give retail customers a clearer visibility to their products and assets throughout any stage in the production process.

The non-exclusive contract provides Zebra with an OEM software license for OATxpress. OATxpress is part of an industry-leading platform—OAT Foundation Suite and is designed to capture, filter and manage high volumes of auto-ID and sensor data from a single facility. The facilities can range from a retail store or distribution store, deploying across hundreds of locations.

Anders Gustafsson, CEO of Zebra Technologies stated that this newfound relationship is extremely important for Zebra’s RFID real-time location solutions strategy.

Phil Gerskovich, Senior Vice President of the new growth platforms at Zebra Technologies is excited to see what the addition of OAT’s passive RFID and other auto-ID technologies capabilities will contribute in the growth of providing a more meaningful role in helping organizations make smarter decisions in managing their operations.

In upcoming months Zebra will announce what its new product is as well as the capabilities it will have, to combine both active and passive RFID. The OAT Foundation Suite will allow for a smoother transition to the addition of more device types and technologies to the platform for future phases.

Rob van der Merwe, chairman, president and CEO of Checkpoint Systems stated that he and his team are very proud to be selected by Zebra as their first choice for providing a strategic RFID software platform.

Key markets that can benefit from and take advantage of Zebra’s products are retail, industrial manufacturing, process industries, automotive, aerospace, maritime and government. Future conferences will be held by Zebra and Checkpoint to further discuss what is in store as a result of the partnership.
